Is New Mexico Killer Toying with Private Investigator on his Trail?
An e-mail from someone claiming to be from the West Mesa killer has been received by a private investigator in Albuquerque investigating the murders, KOAT reported last week.
The June e-mail was full of obscenities -- and one chilling sentence.
The writer claims to be the West Mesa killer. The remains of 10 women and a fetus were discovered in February at a 92-acre construction site on Albuquerque's southwest mesa.
The e-mail, addressed to investigator Dr. George Walker Sr., referenced the women who've been found buried.
"If this person was not the West Mesa killer, what individual would be sick enough to take this kind of responsibility?" said Walker.
Walker said two days after receiving the e-mail, the phone rang. The caller said he wrote the e-mail and told Walker he was watching him.
"We took that as naturally a serious threat, but that this person was not through communicating with us," said Walker.
Walker passed the information on to police, and continues to investigate.
He said his involvement began years ago when his agency had two cases involving missing young women. He was still trying to find those women for their families when the West Mesa case broke. His office is offering a $15,000 reward and said he receives about 50 leads a month. Walker said the reward money came from his clients who want to see the West Mesa mystery solved.
Walker said the leads run "from conversations overheard in vents, to remembering instances where they saw individuals grab ladies, handcuff them and get away with it."
